Healthy Living in a Bad Economy (Part 2 - Foundational Nutrition)

The other day I mentioned the idea of "essentials" versus "extras." Here is where we will begin in order to determine how to get the "essentials" we truly need in our diets without paying for the "extras" we don't need.  The primary concept I want to address with you is that of "Foundational Nutrition." As you can see from the picture above, a strong foundation is rather important.  So, Foundational Nutrition is critical. It means you are providing your body with  all the amino acids needed for life, all the necessary plant based nutrients, and all the vitamins and minerals needed to not just survive, but thrive. Now this may seem either simplistic to you or daunting. If you think you can just go down to your local supermarket and you'll be good to go you may end up DEAD wrong. Thinking you can just do that in this day and age is taking the simplistic and, unfortunately, in the long run, costly and deadly approach. On the other hand, there are lots and lots of supplements out there and you may fall prey to the belief that you need TONS of them in order to support good health. That is what I categorize as a daunting prospect, as you would have to be quite an expert to even begin to make sense of what you need, why you need it, when you need it, and HOW YOU ARE GOING TO AFFORD IT! I am going to be going into detail in the days and weeks ahead to help you to fully grasp the concept of Foundational Nutrition. For today, I want you to just start to comprehend that to build any kind of structure, you must start with a solid foundation. Without it, nothing else really matters.
